NEXT MEETING: Thursday, September 22nd

This month's presentation is:

Understanding Air Barrier Systems and Design Options

Presented by Han Ling of The HENRY Company

HAN LING IS THE TERRITORY SALES MANAGER FOR THE HENRY COMPANY’S BUILDING ENVELOPE SYSTEMS DIVISION FOR THE NYC AND NORTHERN NJ MARKETS. HE IS A MEMBER OF CSI AND A CDT AND ALSO ACTIVE IN BEC. THE HENRY COMPANY HAS COMPLETED OVER 450 MILLION SF OF AIR AND RAIN BARRIERS THROUGHOUT NORTH AMERICA.

  • THE DOE & AIA HAVE CONCLUDED THAT 40% OF ENERGY USED TO HEAT & COOL OUR BUILDINGS IS WASTED THROUGH AIR SEEPAGE.

MOLD AND MILDEW ISSUES ARE ALSO DRIVING THE DEMAND FOR AN EFFICIENT AIR AND RAIN BARRIER FOR THE EXTERIOR WALL ENVELOPE.

ASHRAE 189 STANDARD FOR THE DESIGN OF HIGH PERFORMANCE GREEN BUILDINGS, MODEL CODE – SUSTAINABILITY FOR COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS REQUIRES A CONTINUOUS AIR BARRIER FOR IMPROVED ENERGY SAVINGS.

ADDITION OF AIR BARRIERS FOR IMPROVED ENERGY SAVINGS GOALS FOR ASHRAE 90.1 AND LEED V3. NPFA 285 HAS BEEN IN THE FOREFRONT OF MOST DESIGNERS. LEARN WHAT THE STANDARD REQUIRES

THE PRESENTATION WILL DESCRIBE HOW TO CREATE AN EFFECTIVE AIR BARRIER AND RAIN BARRIER AND WHERE APPROPRIATE, A VAPOR BARRIER.

    ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS WILL LEARN:

    • WHAT IS AN AIR BARRIER? HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A VAPOR BARRIER?

    • WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN AIR & RAIN BARRIER VS WEATHER RESISTIVE BARRIER

    • WHAT IS A BREATHABLE MEMBRANE?

    • HOW TO INCORPORATE THIS TECHNOLOGY INTO YOUR BUILDING DESIGN

    • WHAT ARE THE SYSTEMS TO ACHIEVE THIS?

    • WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS IF YOU IGNORE AIR LEAKAGE?

    • WHAT THE CURRENT CODES AND STANDARDS ARE

    •  WHAT ARE THE ANTICIPATED ENERGY SAVINGS?
